As we have already discussed, harm and abuse can occur at any time, anywhere. It can occur in an individual’s home, in the workplace or while out and about somewhere. As well as this, harm and abuse can be unintentional as well as intentional and be the result of a mistake on your part rather than a malicious action.
For example, throwing away leftover or out of date food without an individual’s permission could be considered financial/material abuse, even if you did not mean to harm the individual. Your workplace will have safeguards in place to ensure that this does not happen and that individuals are protected. You should familiarise yourself with these safeguards and always make sure to follow them when caring for an individual.
