13.7b Describe what to do in the event of a fire

It is important that you familiarise yourself with your workplace’s procedures relating to fire. This is because your workplace will have its own specific procedures and actions to take in the event of a fire. If you are not knowledgeable on these procedures then it could lead to someone getting injured or killed.

If working in an individual’s home, you should also make sure you familiarise yourself with any escape routes and come to an agreement with your employer on what to do in the event of a fire while you are there. You may also need to be aware of increased risks, such as if an individual chooses to smoke for example. By doing these things, you can minimise the damage done by fire.
