6.4b List any legislation and agreed ways of working to maintain confidentiality in day-to-day communication

It is essential that you obey the legislation and laws about confidentiality. Here are the main ones that you should know:

  • General Data Protection Regulation 2016-This places obligations on organisations, and by extension yourself, to process personal data securely. This includes protecting people’s privacy and giving individuals the right to consent to data collection and the right to have their data removed.
  • Human Rights Act 1998-Goes over the basic rights that every person in the UK is entitled to. The most important one in the context of confidentiality is the right to respect for private and family life, home and correspondence.
