7.4c Ensure their own personal views do not influence an individual’s own choices or decisions

To ensure that individuals maintain their independence, you should not let your own personal views influence their choices. Part of an individual’s rights is their right to weigh their options and come to a decision on their own based on their personal experiences and preferences. Therefore, you should not let your own personal views influence their decision.

The individual knows what is best for their care, and if you give your own personal views, they could feel pressured to make a choice that they do not think is best for them. You should explain your point of view if you are worried that their decision could affect their health or social care, but you should also ensure that they are aware it is their decision to make. This is extremely important for making sure the individual maintains their independence.
