8.2c Ensure that individuals are offered drinks in accordance with their plan of care

Drinks should be offered in accordance with an individual’s care plan. An individual’s care plan will go over their exact fluid requirements, so you should refer to it when providing an individual with fluids to ensure you are caring for them correctly in a way that suits them.

It is also important to keep up to date with the care plan as an individual’s fluid requirements may change over time. For example, they may have an upcoming operation and not be allowed to drink for their own safety. As such, you should refer to the care plan as often as possible.
