8.3d Support and encourage individuals to eat in accordance with their plan of care

An individual’s care plan is an essential part of delivering their needs and should always be followed for their own safety. As such, you should make sure that any individuals you care for eat in accordance with their plan of care to ensure they get the right amount of nutrition.

Some individuals may need support or encouragement to do this. This could mean encouraging them to eat healthy to maintain good nutrition, or it could mean aiding them with eating by doing things such as providing specialist equipment. For example, if an individual has dementia, you should remind them when it is time to eat in case they forget.

Even if an individual has no specialist requirements, you should still do your best to encourage them to get the right amount of nutrition and follow their plan of care. This will ensure they stay healthy over the duration of their care.
