To help you to enable more effective communication, you may need to identify sources of information, support and services.

This can include:

  • The individual themselves
  • Their family/friends or others that know them well
  • Co-workers and managers
  • Care plan
  • Other professionals (e.g. speech and language therapist, interpreters etc.)
  • Specialist organisations (Stroke Association UK for individuals that have difficulty communicating following a stroke)

Your organisation may provide some services themselves or have links to other specialised services. Where your organisation does not have in-house support, it may be necessary to look for external sources, such as the local authority, charities, independent advocacy services etc.
