Qualification: Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care
Unit name: Communication in Care Settings
Learning outcome: 3. Be able to reduce barriers to communication
Assessment criteria: 3.4 Identify sources of information, support and services to enable more effective communication

To help you to enable more effective communication, you may need to identify sources of information, support and services.

This can include:

  • The individual themselves
  • Their family/friends or others that know them well
  • Co-workers and managers
  • Care plan
  • Other professionals (e.g. speech and language therapist, interpreters etc.)
  • Specialist organisations (Stroke Association UK for individuals that have difficulty communicating following a stroke)

Your organisation may provide some services themselves or have links to other specialised services. Where your organisation does not have in-house support, it may be necessary to look for external sources, such as the local authority, charities, independent advocacy services etc.
