Even when precautions are taken and risk are assessed, there are still several types of accidents and sudden illnesses that may occur in a health and social care setting.

Examples of accidents could include:

  • An individual tripping on a frayed rug or carpet
  • An individual slipping over in the shower
  • An individual spilling boiling water on their hand when making a cup of tea

Examples of sudden illnesses could include:

  • An individual suffering from food poisoning from not cooking their food correctly
  • Work-related stress from a staff member working too many hours
  • Musculoskeletal disorders from an individual performing lifting or carrying tasks incorrectly
