5.3 Demonstrate how to move and handle equipment and objects safely

In the last assessment criteria, we talked about some of the principles of safe moving and handling. For this assessment criteria, you will need to demonstrate to your assessor that you can perform moving and handling activities safely.

This could involve carrying an item, such as a box to the storeroom or using a piece of equipment, such as a wheelchair.

You should ensure that you perform these tasks in line with your employer’s agreed ways of working and (if working with an individual) that their independence and dignity is promoted throughout.

You should demonstrate that you have planned the task before you begin and carried out any preliminary checks, such as equipment safety checks or ensuring the environment is free from potential hazards.
