Keeping evacuation routes clear at all times is tremendously important in the event of a fire because it allows the swift and safe escape on individuals from the building.

Clutter or poorly-maintained flooring could result in evacuation taking longer than required and could result in additional injuries such as slips and trips. Clutter could also quite literally ‘add fuel to the fire’ increasing the likelihood of a fire escape route becoming blocked by flames.

Fire escape routes and fire exits should be clearly signposted and well-lit so that they can be observed at night-time.
