First of all, some definitions:

  • Standards are the minimum levels that work should be performed to
  • Regulatory requirements are how things should be done to comply with the law
  • Agreed ways of working are the policies and procedures of your organisation

It is important that you are able to identify standards, regulatory requirements and agreed ways of working because they will impact on your knowledge, skills and understanding with relation to the way you perform your work. For example, understanding that you have a duty of care to safeguard the individuals that you care for from harm will help you to make decisions that are compliant with the law. In addition, your organisation’s safeguarding policy will provide further details about to safeguard individual’s in line with your employer’s agreed ways of working. Your employer must provide you with full access to their agreed ways of working.
