The risks from online access can be reduced in several ways.

Ensuring software on devices is up-to-date and has adequate antivirus and firewall software installed can prevent hacking attacks.

Empowering individuals with knowledge about what they can do to protect themselves is also a very good way to reduce risks. This can include:

  • Not letting others use their devices
  • Not disclosing their passwords to anyone
  • Ensuring they are not being observed when entering passwords
  • Logging out or locking their devices when not using them

Also, having somebody that they can turn to if they have concerns about their online safety can reduce the risks.
