For this assessment criteria, you will need to demonstrate that you are able to establish the communication and language needs, wishes and preferences of individuals in order to maximise the quality of interaction.

The best way to get this information is from the individual themselves. This may be obtained verbally or using other methods, such as gestures or visual aids.

You may also get information about an individuals communication needs, wishes and preferences from others, such as co-workers, the individual’s family or other professionals that have worked with them.

The individual’s care plan should also provide information about how to communicate effectively with them.
