It is important for Early Years practitioners to be able to identify common childhood illnesses so that they can provide the appropriate care and support. The most common childhood illnesses are:

  • Common cold
  • Flu (influenza)
  • Whooping cough
  • Tonsilitis
  • Viral infections that lead to vomiting/diarrhoea
  • Chickenpox
  • Measles
  • German measles\Rubella
  • Mumps
  • Scabies
  • Scarlet fever
  • Hand, foot and mouth disease
  • Impetigo (bullous & non-bullous)
  • Ear infections
  • Meningitis
