Assessment criteria: Identify common childhood illnesses
It is important for Early Years practitioners to be able to identify common childhood illnesses so that they can provide the appropriate care and support. The most common childhood illnesses are:
- Common cold
- Flu (influenza)
- Whooping cough
- Tonsilitis
- Viral infections that lead to vomiting/diarrhoea
- Chickenpox
- Measles
- German measles\Rubella
- Mumps
- Scabies
- Scarlet fever
- Hand, foot and mouth disease
- Impetigo (bullous & non-bullous)
- Ear infections
- Meningitis
