Unit 2.1: An introduction to the role of the Early Years practitioner

This unit is part of the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator and has the following learning outcomes and assessment criteria:

1. Understand the role of the Early Years practitioner
   1. Identify the skills, knowledge and attributes required for the role of the Early Years practitioner
   2. Identify settings which provide Early Years education and care
   3. Describe the relationship between legislation, policies and procedures
   4. Describe the role of the Early Years practitioner in relation to current frameworks
   5. Identify every day routine tasks which ensure a safe and stimulating setting
   6. Describe reasons for adhering to the agreed scope of the job role
2. Be able to communicate to meet individuals’ needs and preferences
   1. Identify reasons why people communicate
   2. Explain how communication affects all aspects of own practice
   3. Use communication methods that meet individuals’ communication needs and preferences
3. Understand working relationships in Early Years
   1. Explain how a working relationship is different to a personal relationship
   2. Identify different working relationships in Early Years settings
   3. Explain reasons for working in partnership with others
   4. Identify skills and approaches needed for resolving conflict
4. Understand why Continuing Professional Development is integral to the role of the Early Years practitioner
   1. Explain why Continuing Professional Development is integral to the role of the Early Years practitioner
