Unit: Unit 2.2: Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children
Learning outcome: Understand legislation and guidelines for the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children
Assessment criteria: Identify policies and procedures relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children
Early Years organisations must have documented policies and procedures that describe how they protect children’s welfare and keep them safe from harm, abuse and neglect.
You should know how to access our organisation’s policies and procedures and be familiar with them.
Your organisation should have a Safeguarding Policy and Procedure, which you will need to read.
This will contain information such as how to report any concerns or suspicions of abuse/neglect that you have and how they will be managed. It will also name the nominated safeguarding lead, who will be the person that will oversee all safeguarding within the setting.
There will also be several other policies and procedures that relate to child safeguarding. For example, there may be a Recruitment or New Staff policy that includes details about performing a DBS check prior to a new staff member beginning work in the setting.
