Early Years practitioners should be able to identify accidents and incidents that may occur within their setting. Accidents are unplanned events that result in injury or damage, while incidents are unplanned events that do not result in injury or damage.
Some accidents that may occur in an Early Years setting include:
- A child falling off of a piece of playground equipment
- A child choking on a toy or food item
- A child being cut by a sharp object
Some incidents that may occur in an Early Years setting include:
- A child behaving aggressively
- An evacuation due to a fire within the building
- An unauthorised adult accessing the premises
