Assessment criteria: Identify hazards to the health and safety of: children, colleagues, visitors
For this assessment criteria, you will be required to demonstrate that you can identify potential hazards that could impact the health and safety of children, colleagues and visitors. We have provided some examples below:
Hazards to children
- Falling off play equipment
- Allergic reactions
- Slipping on spillages (such as during water play)
- Getting fingers trapped in a door
Hazards to colleagues
- Burns (e.g. from using a steriliser or oven)
- Stress (e.g. from being overworked)
- Infection (e.g. from working with an ill child)
Hazards to visitors
- Being unable to leave an area in an emergency because they do not have a key
- Slips, trips and falls
Early Years organisations’ have a legal duty to identify potential hazards and carry out risk assessments to reduce or eliminate the risk of harm being caused.
