This unit is part of the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator and has the following learning outcomes and assessment criteria:
- Understand biological, environmental and developmental factors which may result in children needing additional support
- Define the terms: biological, environmental
- Analyse the impact of biological factors on children’s development
- Analyse the impact of environmental factors on children’s development
- Analyse the impact of the stage of development on children’s learning
- Describe factors which affect children’s development in the: short term, long term
- Understand how personal experiences, values and beliefs impact on the role of the Early Years practitioner
- Understand the principles of inclusive practice
- Understand the role of early intervention in partnership working
- Identify children’s additional needs in relation to expected stages of development
- Describe the reasons for early intervention when meeting children’s additional needs
- Explain strategies for early intervention
- Evaluate the principles of working in partnership with others to meet children’s additional needs
- Be able to support the additional needs of children
- Identify the individual needs of children in own setting
- Plan activities in partnership with others to meet children’s additional needs
- Work in partnership with others to provide activities to meet children’s additional needs
- Work with parents/carers in a way which encourages them to take an active role in their child’s play, learning and development
- Reflect on own practice in meeting children’s additional needs
- Be able to critically evaluate the provision for children with additional needs in own setting
