Qualification: NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator
Unit: Unit 3.15: Use longitudinal studies to observe, assess and plan for children’s needs
Learning outcome: Be able to use observations to assess and plan for the developmental needs of children in line with current frameworks
Assessment criteria: Implement plans which meet the developmental needs and interests of children
In the previous section, we explored some things we should keep in mind when planning an activity for a child that considers their unique needs and preferences. For this criterion, you will be required to implement your plan within your Early Years setting.
Following the activity, you will find it useful to reflect on how the child engaged with it, what they enjoyed and how you could improve it for next time. This will help you to understand the individual needs of each child in your care and adjust your plans accordingly.
It is important to remember that every child is different and will engage with activities differently. Some children may need more support than others, while others may want to be left to explore independently. As an Early Years practitioner, it is your job to provide the appropriate level of support for each individual child.
