Assessment criteria: Maintain subject knowledge across curriculum subjects which are of personal interest

For this assessment criterion, you will be required to maintain subject knowledge across curriculum subjects that are of personal interest to you.

This means keeping up-to-date and even specialising in particular areas of child learning. The EYFS states three prime areas of learning:

  1. Communication and language
  2. Physical development
  3. Personal, social and emotional development

In addition, there are four specific areas of learning:

  1. Literacy
  2. Mathematics
  3. Understanding the world
  4. Expressive arts and design

At Key Stage 1, the National Curriculum identifies ten subjects:

  1. English
  2. Maths
  3. Science
  4. Design and technology
  5. History
  6. Geography
  7. Art and design
  8. Music
  9. Physical education (PE), including swimming
  10. Computing

The subjects that you take the most interest in will be personal to you, however, you should ensure that work to develop a specialisation in a particular area.
