Each organisation’s emergency procedures in the event of a fire will be different, so it is important that you read and understand those of your own employer.
Typical emergency procedures include:
- Raising the alarm
- Calling 999 emergency services
- Evacuating the building – there may be unique fire risk assessments and evacuation procedures for each individual you support
- Following fire escape routes and leaving the building via fire exits
- Making your way to the fire assembly point
- Not re-entering the building for any reason
If you have had specialist training and it is safe to do so, you may fight the fire using equipment provided, such as a fire extinguisher
