Unit name: Safeguarding and Protection in Care Settings
Learning outcome: 1. Understand principles of safeguarding adults
Assessment criteria: 1.4 Describe harm
‘Harm’ usually refers to damage that is caused deliberately and can be broadly split into four categories:
- Physical harm such as cuts, bruises, burns and broken bones
- Psychological harm such as fear and distress
- Misappropriation such as theft or scamming
Adults that receive care services are often more vulnerable to harm and so measures should be taken to ensure their welfare.
