Some of the ways that you may do this include:

  • Ensuring you read each individual’s care plan before supporting them
  • Listening to the individual and having a genuine interest in what they say
  • Being non-judgmental, compassionate and understanding
  • Not trying to influence an individual’s values or beliefs
  • Providing care that is in line with their culture, beliefs and preferences (e.g. preferred food,
  • Promoting and supporting an individual’s rights
