8.2a Ensure drinks are within reach of those that have restrictions on their movement/ mobility

As part of an individual’s care, they should have access to fluids at all times unless it is restricted for medical reasons, for example, if they have an upcoming operation. Some individuals have restrictions on their mobility however, which could affect their access to fluids. As such, you should ensure that drinks are in reach of the individual at all times.

For example, an individual may be unable to move from their bed due to a physical disability. To ensure they can still access fluids, you could put a glass of water on their bedside table or something similar where they can reach it. This means that they will be able to keep themselves hydrated even if you are not nearby to provide assistance.
