Duty of care is the legal and professional responsibility to ensure that any actions that you take as part of your own work role do not adversely affect the welfare of the individuals that you care for.

This also extends to any ommissions that you make as part of your work role (for example, not giving an individual medication that they need).

Exercising your duty of care means that you will work in a safe and compassionate way and protect the individuals that you care for from harm, abuse and neglect.
